Dominican Republic History Timeline & Facts

• 1492 - Christopher Columbus visits the island, which he names Hispaniola ( translates as Little Spain)
  
• 1496 - Spaniards set up first Spanish colony and Santo Domingo was founded
• in 1496 by Bartholomew Columbus which subsequently served as the capital of all Spanish colonies in South America
  
• 1510 The first shipment of Africans to Santo Domingo
  
• 1515 The indigenous Taino Indians were practically annihilated due to continuos clashes and rebellion against the Spanish
  
• 1586 January 1, Francis Drake attacked the heavily fortified city of Santo Domingo in Hispanola and forced the governor to pay a large ransom.

This evetns are really important in the Dominican because those are the one that basicly makes the DR history

The book of Pastarolia, is conected or related to Absurdism How? Who knows but they are conected. =)

I also conected this book with America society, and how the author used he’s story and books to make fun of america society. George Saunders used the characters in Pastarolia to make fun of America society, because the character in Pastarolia are frecuently working on a theme park acting as caveman, and a cavewomen, and no one go and watch what they are doing and that’s a routine that they follow every singla day and that’s something that dosnt make sence, so I think that he’s trying to say that Americans do things that don’t make sence such as being doing the same thing with out having the people go and watch what they are doing, so that’s one way in which George Saunders is making fun of America Society.

Is Wall- mart good for America?    I defenetly think that Wall-Mart is Not Good At All for America. There are many reasons why i think this way. First of all, this company is bad for America because by buying things from China and selling the item here at a low prices its putting out competition other Americans business in American soil. The way i see it is that they have like a monopoly destroying this little business that cant compete against them, and thats not good for America at all, because many people are loosing their job, specially at this specific moment jobs is what we need and we have this company in American soil that instep of making more jobs for Americans they are destroying. How ever, this is just my point of view but this guy the one we saw in the film he is the Wall-Mart VP he believe that Walmart is not only good for America but it’s good for any country that they decide to open up in.They have great savings, but like any other store, you have to watch their sales as they aren’t in business to lose money. Their savings are great and they offer competition to existing stores to help keep prices down. On an employee level they are awesome. But as many people here in the US believe Wall Mart is not good for America, thats what a worker of a company that was detroyed by Wall-Mart thinks, he believe that wal-mart is destroying Americans company that cant compete with the big trading that wall-mart and china has so it seems that this little company can’t get in the way of Wal-Mart and China pact because Wal-Mart low prices will take them out of their way.  So Wal-Mart its defenitly Bad for America.

HomeWork 3-1-10

Dear. Mr. Dolan

Well Mr. Dolan During last week we were dialoging about sociology imagination and we spend the whole week discussing the same thing. Even though at the beginning when we first star to talk about sociology at was really confuse because I was absent one day and I was totally loose, but I read I look other research that help me to understand  this about sociology. Now after a week I now can say that I’m ready to answer or to clarify anything about sociology because I really understand it. For example we can say that sociological imagination is The set of mind that allows individuals to see the relationship between events in their personal lives and events in their society.  So as we make our society we also make many of the changes that happens on our society, or also most of the time we are the one who choose what to do or what to think and that end it up resulting in a big  events on our life. In my personal believe I think I can apply this to my own life because I had choose many decision that result  on big event on my life. For example one day I decide to play baseball on one team, I choose that team out of many, and I end it up winning the most valuable player of the league and we end it up wining the final game so we were champions, I made a big decision and that decision end it up having a huge impact on me, because every time I go to a new team they ask me what do you accomplished on other team, and when you said you have won a MVP trophy they looks at you differently, that’s one way Mr. Dolan I can apply sociological thinking to my own life. Well I have not take the time to really think about applying this work to the live of others  but if I was to applied it to the life of others I will say that I can connect this to the lives of all the people who makes a decision and they get a positive effects or even a negative effects on their life, and to those who try or make changes in our societies.

Part 1:

Post your classwork from today on the blog.

What I see in this picture is that a Chinese man is in the middle of abig group of American soldier. In this picture what is happen is that there are many  American soldier and there is a Chinese person in the middle who looks likethere were trying to kill hen. But its something weird on this picture because there are a lot of soldier and the Chinese  guy is in the middle but its weird because out the whole group there is only one of them pointing at hen with a gun, the other one are just bystanders.

World issue.

This is a word issue because this might be a sing of racism because
how can it be only one Chinese in the middle of everything. This also show how people can be just looking at something and even though they know that what its happening its maybe wrong they don’t do anything. Another thing is that i don’t know if this picture was just made or it was actually taken, what i know is that this apply to the real world because in many part of the world a lot of things like this happens it might not be against Chinese people but against others people. Like for example i saw the same thing happen on Dominican Republic back in 2007 when i went back there for vacation, i saw many Dominicans hitting a Haitian guy i don’t know why, but a lot of bus were just watching  even though we knew what was happening was wrong, and the end of the fight someone ask the person who was hitting the man, why he was doing that? and he just answer ” because someone tell me that a Haitian guy took my cousin motorcycle i don’t know if is this one but the looks like”  in other world this is a world problem and unfortionally this happens everywhere 

Personal trouble

This is defenetly a personal trouble because those are things that we have to deal with. Personal troubles are issues that we have in our life and i defenetly think that to be hate just because of were we from or the color of our skin its a problem a personal issue that we think, see, and we also try to solve it.

Connection.

however the man that look like Chinese is about to get to get killed by other man which i think is an American man, he looks like a regular citizen. This shows violence, pressure a racism, it show pressure because the Chinese man has a gun on hes head maybe they are asking hen to do something or anything he has a lot of pressure on hen self because he either do it or he get killed, it show violence you see the man trying to killed hen.  Also it confuse me there are some other man behind the one that has the gun and the fact that they are uniform just like the soldiers or police man and didn’t did anything about.

-Every Picture Tells A Story

Its a life that no one will like to live. A few decades ago, a family of four move to  Indonesia, it was a place were no one will like to live because of the racism that exist in there. There were Latino of black skin, as soon as they get there the people who were living there they started to hate them, and to make their life impossible, but scaring them and doing all the stupid thing you can think off. The police of  the town who were suppose to defend the citizen there were also racist and did not care about what people do to others, but one day one of the man decide to do something, one night he decide to protect against the racist that was going on on the town and he make poster and things of that nature he were having poster like ” We Are All Equal” the person who live in the town didn’t care about it  they just let it go because they though that he will not get enough attention, but he keep doing the strike and one day one of the news saw what was going on, and they say something on the news, they said ” A Man With  Out No Power Is Traying To Brake White Supremacy” or the belief that white people are superior to people of other racial backgrounds. Thats when everything star, the violence against others people, thats when the White Indonesian were killing people who were even half black or Latino, the only purpose of this was to let the news know that if they keep talking about the situation there will make their life even harder  and after a lot of people see the news they finally made law to protect people from racist action, but they keep getting people scared until one day the man decide to go out again this time with a post that said “We Were Equal Before The Law” and this time the white Indonesian made hen paid and scared hen a lot there were like 50 of them for only one of them, they make a circle and put hen in the middle and one of them was about to shoot hen with a gun and there were a journalist who saw what was happening and he took a picture of this but after all they took hen out the town and no one ever know what happen with the man and no one know if he is at live or not.

Part 3:

Write a reflection about your story that explains how your story shows sociological imagination. [Sociological imagination is the the connection between 1) personal troubles and public issues, 2) personal behavior and social interaction, 3) biography and history, 4) individuals and wider society, as well as other overlaps between the private and public life.]

In the story of “Every Picture Tells A Story”  there are a lot of Sociological imagination because it show  personal trouble and world issues how they are connected and how one of them help to make the other one , this story show the personal trouble because if someone hate you because of the color of your skin or because of your cultural background thats a problem right there, that you think and you know that you might be in trouble. Furthermore this a public issue because its involved everyone, you might not be racist but you can’t be just a bystander and see how other hate people with out reason or having stupid reason is not a good thing, be part of the solution not of the problem. This two are connected because we can say that one somehow makes the other one racist thing makes personal trouble.
